Resin kits

  • Why resin?
  • Resin allows production of models that will not, in all likelihood, be produced in plastic. Resin utilizes rubber molds which allow economic production of models in small batches.

  • Building a resin kit.
  • Okay, I have purchased a resin kit. What is the first thing I should do? First, carefully open the box and review the castings for damage or missing pieces. Most manufacturers will provide a parts list. Notify them immediately if any parts are missing or broken. Next, put everything except the Background Information and the Instructions back into the box for safekeeping. Finally, before building any kit, read the instructions over carefully. After reading the instructions, read them again to make sure that you understand how to build the kit.

  • What adhesives do you use?
  • The type of adhesive is dictated by the kit. I use Cyanoacrylate Adhesives (fast setting or thin type, and slow setting or thick type). Apply sparingly so as not to mar the surface. Five minute epoxy builds a strong long–lasting joint.
